Mike shares the sad news of the passing of Dave Sanborn, a remarkable alto saxophonist and friend. Born in 1945, they formed a close bond, performing together on iconic albums and tours like Bowie’s “Young Americans.” Dave’s unique sound and humble pursuit of musical mastery left an indelible mark. His legacy will continue but he will be deeply missed.
Back by popular demand, Luke Spiller and I return to The Sun Rose on March 30. I’m excited to invite you to our intimate, behind-the-scenes VIP show, celebrating The Sun Rose’s two-year anniversary! Join me and Luke Spiller, along with a powerhouse band featuring Shay Godwin on drums, Nando Raio on bass, and Dave Wood on guitar, as we gear up to record my first studio album in 12 years at Skywalker Studios next month!
My first show with Violet Grohl was a big hit – a magical evening of music! Many of you were eager to be there with us but couldn’t because that show sold out in record time. Good news: we’re doing another show together on February 23. Tickets drop this Friday at 10am. Plan to grab yours quickly for the opportunity to join us for another unforgettable evening!
It was a pleasure sitting down with Gio at Bluebird for this interview…
I’m thrilled to announce that my November 11 show at The Sun Rose will feature a special collaboration with the exceptionally gifted Violet Grohl. Tickets are on sale now, so secure your spot for what promises to be an extraordinary evening.
I look forward to returning to The Sun Rose in Hollywood on October 7. While this solo piano concert is not part of my Bowie’s Piano Man residency series, as with all of my shows at The Sun Rose, you never know who else may jump on stage as a special surprise guest! Tickets are available now! I look forward to seeing you soon…
Strangers When We Meet is one of the most underrated Bowie songs. I really love this truly incredible version. The piano was mixed perfectly. Notice how everyone in the band just played the perfect part. If it weren’t for their laying it down so beautifully, there would have been no way for me to have had the freedom to improvise so continuously underneath or to be as supportive of David. I hope you hear and see what I see. He was the artist of many generations.
